The demand for turbo reconditioning and turbo repair in most modern diesel cars through Northern Ireland and Ireland is rising. There is a vast range of turbos used in modern vehicles and the turbo parts manufacturing market can struggle to keep up with the demand. Over the past few years we have noticed an increase in turbo repairs and dpf problems in modern vehicles from Mazda to Bmw and from Peugeot to Ford, these vehicles seem to suffer dpf problems and turbo repairs but here at Hagan's Autos we have many years experience in turbo reconditioning and Dpf removals in Northern Ireland and Ireland.

If you drive a modern turbo diesel then there is a good chance it has a dpf system fitted as standard, the purpose of the dpf filter is to filter the soot particles produced during engine combustion, the soot particles are then burnt of in the dpf regeneration proses. If you do a lot of start stop driving then the soot can build up in the dpf filter and cause it to partially block even after regeneration, when this happens it can be very expensive to replace the dpf filter, so your only solution is have the dpf system removed.

Here are some examples of how vehicles can suffer from turbo failure.

Lets look at bmw models such as the 320d and 330d, these vehicle have a modern turbo diesel engine which is kitted out with a EGR system (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) and also a dpf system (Diesel Particulate Filter). Next you have what is called crankcase ventilation, this basically means a small percentage of combustion gas will escape past the piston rings in the engine and get into the engine oil.Theses gases are vented back into the engines induction system via the crankcase breathing system so in theory they never stay in the crankcase long enough to contaminate the oil. The problem with this is, this process occurs constantly when the engine is running and eventually the oil gets contaminated to the point where it can no longer lubricate the turbo. The dpf system will run a timed regeneration of the system, when this is happening more diesel than the normal operating amount is injected into each cylinder at each injection stroke until it has finished the regeneration, the problem with this is some of the extra diesel can escape past the piston ring and contaminate the engine oil. When you combine this with poor servicing then the engine oil will degrade very quickly which means the turbo on your Bmw 320d and 330 M sport will fail.

Now lets look at another vehicle which is well known for its turbo problems, Peugeot 307 1.6 HDI and 407 1.6 HDI. The Peugeot 407 1.6 HDI and 307 1.6 HDI suffer from turbo failure quite often, this is caused by oil degradation occurring due to the high temperatures these engines run at and other systems such as dpf (diesel Particulate Filter). Dispersant additives in today's engine oils can only last for so long as excessive soot levels in the oil can quickly overwhelm them and form what is commonly known as sludge, once this happens then the turbo on the Peugeot 307 1.6 HDI and 407 1.6 HDI will fail. Turbo failure is very common on the Peugeot 407 1.6 HDI and 307 1.6 HDI in fact it is so common we have devised our remedy to prevent future turbo problems once you have had the turbo repaired, so if you drive a modern diesel car and are having turbo problems or dpf problems then feel free give us a call.

The Peugeot 308 1.6 HDI seem to be one which also suffer from turbo failure even as often as its brothers the Peugeot 307 and 407. This is simply because they have used the same 1.6 HDI engine as the 307 and 407 there for the Peugeot 308 HDI will produce the same damaging sludge in the oil and unfortunately cause turbo failure.
